Film Spool 2

There are three major formats for the movie musical:
1.) the backstage musical
2.) the review
3.) the integrated musical

While an important and widely accepted movie genre at one point, musicals are no longer viable or dependable in modern day cinema. There are several primary reasons for their decline. The plot lines of most musicals are hackneyed, characters in musicals often lack psychological depth, Tin Pan Alley songs are out of style, the convention of characters bursting into song breaks with cinematic realism. In short, the jaded movie audiences of our recent generations simply don't "buy it".

Despite their obvious decline in importance, musicals are still influential and many films, TV shows, and music videos are scattered with references to their old-fashioned predecessors.
