Depression? Who's depressed? Not Fred and Ginger!

Ahhh... escapist fare.

This George Stevens 1936 film was just one in a series of RKO produced musicals starring America's sweathearts, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Swingtime was wildly popular, and despite a mediocre plot lines and quirky singing voices, the Astaire-Rogers musicals are often considered the greatest in movie history.

While most movie musicals rely variably on acting and singing, it was Astaire and Rogers' dancing that won the hearts of the American public. And they were not the best dancers in the world... but watch one scene of Swingtime and you'll understand why that just didn't matter. It was their chemistry and their little idiosyncracies that made them so lovable.
