Co-director, choreographer, and star, Gene Kelly made this 1952 classic come alive with his contagious enthusiam and
overwhelming charm.
Set in the late 1920's, the plot revolves around characters Don Lockwood, Lina Lamont, and Kathy Selden. Don and Lina
are famous on-screen lovers but Lina's lack of singing ability threatens her career as silent film gives way to the sound
revolution. Kathy Selden is brought in to sing while Lina lipsyncs to the music. Don's love for Kathy, however, will not allow
him to sit back and let the flimsy and unlikable Lina take credit for Kathy's beautiful voice.
The most notable scene in which Kelly walks along an empty street swinging his umbrella and singing for joy is the epitomy
of old-time Hollywood charm.
