Directed by John Waters and released in 1990, Crybaby, tells the Romeo and Juliet-ish love story in which a gang of trailer
trash rebellious teens wins out over the square, pretty-boy duwop gang.
"Cry-Baby," starring a young Johnny Depp, shares aspects of its plot with "Grease." Allison is a "square" good
girl who has decided she wants to be bad and falls hard for Wade "Cry-Baby" Walker, a Greaser or "Drape" in John Waters' words.
Spoofing Elvis movies and Juvenile Delinquency scare films of the '50s, this movie follows the adventures of Cry-Baby who,
though he is sent to juvie, is determined to cross class (and taste) boundaries to get Allison back.
I think this is clean and ridiculous warmhearted fun with more than a hint of trash. Cry-Baby is one
of Johnny Depp's funniest performances. The cast is chocked full of cameos from Willem Dafoe to Ricky Lake.
